Location Description:
The locality of Cava d’Aliga, which has about 2,800 residents, is a seaside district of the Baroque city of Scicli, a Sicilian wonderful rich in art and history, it stretches along the southeastern coast of Sicily and is about 40 km from the city of Ragusa.
The locality, which in winter is a quiet coastal hamlet, is transformed in summer, becoming a destination for the inhabitants of Scicli but also for tourists who come here from other towns in the province and even from more distant locations, attracted by the rocky coastline interspersed with sandy beaches.
The sea is always clean due to the lack of large population centers nearby, and bathers can enjoy this now very rare feature in our sea.
But the beauty of Cava d’Aliga lies not so much in the built-up area per se as in the curious position of the village overlooking the beach and in the naturalistic beauty of the small cliffs that in places, eroded by wave motion, host cavities, sometimes real caves: this is the case of the splendid Grotta dei Contrabbandieri, a real piece of paradise, deep cavity in the coast to the east of the main beach and the village, of apparent basaltic nature, a tongue of sea penetrates inside and, in the early afternoon hours, illuminates the interior in a spectacular way.
